Hello!  I just bought a 10 class pass and looked at the class schedule on the web-site.  Will the class-times remain the same for the remainder of the year?  Thanks!

India Poem

You are in India

You have just arrived at the airport

Your have made arrangements to have a car and driver pick you up at the airport

You confirmed this

There is no one there to pick you up

You find a prepaid taxi to your destination

You prepay for your ride to your hotel

Your taxi driver takes you to a tourist office, not your hotel

You tell him this is not your hotel, but a tourist office

He tells you that you will need to make arrangements in the tourist office to “really see” India

You tell him you’re all set

He gets out of the car

You remember you prepaid for a ride to your hotel

You remember your original driver never showed up

You are getting frustrated

You are in India

You are in India

You are lost

You approach a smiling man and ask if he speaks English

He says yes

You ask if he knows where the train station is

He smiles more and says yes, train station, yes!

You ask if he can tell you how to get here

His smile gets bigger and he says yes!

You ask him which direction you should walk to get to the train station

He smiles the biggest smile you’ve ever seen and says yes!

You are noticing a pattern here

You pause, and then ask him if he would like to travel to the moon with you in a spaceship

He says yes

You bow with your hands together and thank him in Hindi

He bows with his hands together says OK

You are in India

Yoga Alliance approved 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Program

Yes, today we received our congratulations from the Yoga Alliance, the international governing body for Yoga teachers and Yoga schools. The Sharing Yoga teacher training program in NH has been approved. Yippee!  Below is the press release. -db

6/8/2009 For Immediate Release

Sharing Yoga Community Yoga School in downtown Concord, NH recently earned the distinction of Registered Yoga School with the Yoga Alliance. David Breen, director of training at Sharing Yoga, started the program in 2006. “We are pleased to have earned this designation from Yoga Alliance” said Breen, “and our students enrolled in the program recognize the importance of an accredited Yoga School.” Yoga Alliance maintains a Registry of Yoga Schools to recognize yoga teacher training programs of at least 200 hours and meet or exceed their high standards. Registered schools are authorized to use the initials RYS (Registered Yoga School) after their names, and receive certificates of registration as well as registry marks. Once a school is registered, all graduates of an RYS® are automatically eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as Registered Yoga Teachers, RYTs.

Breen plans to expand the program in 2010. “Maybe a training session in India or Nepal” he said, “to give students a first hand look at the birthplace of this ancient tradition.”

Yoga Alliance registries are advertised and promoted to the general public, organizations that employ yoga teachers and organizations that review yoga teachers' credentials (hospitals, health insurance companies, governmental organizations, etc.).

The inside scoop at Sharing Yoga

It's shaping up to be a great summer at Sharing Yoga in Concord, NH.

If you're regular you know that the Tuesday 9 AM and the Friday 1130 AM classes have been an Ashtanga Primary Series based class for the past 4-5 months. This is working out really well even though we haven't advertised it a such. The Friday class is billed as an advanced class and there's talk about adding another one of these classes that would be visually guided. What do you think? Is your practice at the point where you could "follow the leader"?

You know we don't advertise which instructors teach which classes because we are trying to help you practice non-attachment. But, I'll let you in on some schedule changes for the summer.

Dawn will be teaching some 9 AM Saturdays during the summer. So, you folks who can't get to Dawns classes during the week will be in for a treat every other Saturday this summer. Dawn's classes are thoughtful and challenging, you will fall in love with them, and probably clear your schedule to get to her daytime classes during the school year.

Donna will be teaching the Tues./Thurs. 1230 classes for the summer. We are lucky to have her on the schedule. Come and take a class with Donna. In addition, Donna is helping out with the Yoga Teacher Training program at Sharing Yoga.

We are also launching a new meditation series starting in June, Sundays at 430. Donna and I will be leading the series. Little bit of Yoga, followed by relaxation, breathing and meditation. Check the website http://www.sharingyoga.com for all the details.

More to come. Take care. Peace, david

What a night

Just got back to Concord from NYC. I took Fung Wah Bus from Boston ($30rt) Friday AM, to attend Dharma Mittra's 70th bday party last night. There were over 300 guests. The party began with Dharma teaching a Yoga class to the 300 or so of us Yoga junkies who attended. Dharma has been teaching in the city for 40 years. He is a very special man. After the class there was a catered event so everyone got to eat great vegan food. This was followed by 4 of Dharma's students performing an original yoga/dance routine set to music. It was beautiful. Next, someone premiered a documentary they made about Dharma. Then, Krishna Das, who is so huge in this circle of Yoga junkies, performed Kirtan for a couple hours. Wah! showed up and sat in on bass. There was this great wooden flute player, who also played during the Yoga class, playing with KD. There was, of course, birthday cake for Dharma. What a very special night. Dharma took the time to meet and greet everyone and say hi. His teachers did a great job pulling off this event. Happy Birthday Dharma!

NEW - Check out our Meditation Cushions - in stock!

Sthira Sukham Asanam

"Your seat should be steady and comfortable" from Patanjali's Yoga Sutra
A new shipment of meditation cushions arrived this week; and boy are they awesome. First off, they are made right here in New England. Secondly, you can order what color you want, choose from over 16 wonderful colors. This quite a step up from our last supplier, who offered dark bkue and dark purple, made in China. Now, nothing against Chinese cushions, but when you put them side by side, the new ones are 10 times better. (I'm not kidding). They are only 10% more than what the old ones sold for. And finally, they come in some very innovative designs. Come in and check out the selection next time you're at class.

Sharing Yoga Teacher Training group

There's been a suggestion to create a online group for those folks in the Sharing Yoga teacher training program - an area where folks in the program can share ideas, resources, discussion, etc. The web address is listed below. The invites will go out soon to everyone registered in the program.  peace, david

Apologies

We are sorry hat some folks were turned away from one of our lunchtime classes recently. Our space holds 16 people comfortably. Over 23 folks showed up. Thanks to those understanding souls who squeezed in to allow 20 people to take the class. Many thanks also to the folks who graciously understood that we could just not fit any more. We are working with these challenges. We offer classes every weekday at lunchtime and most are pretty full already. We do have a second room adjacent to the studio which we are using for massage and private yoga sessions. If we can recruit more instructors, we may be able to offer more classes in the really busy time slots and utilize that space. We are also over capacity on the weekends that we have our teacher training program when both room are full. Please, if you know any yoga teachers who may be interested in helping out, let us know. All the wonderful teachers we have are doing a great job here as we continue to grow. Thanks again everyone for your continued support and understanding. peace, david

Chakra Purification & Relaxation, Breathing and Meditation

Our in depth study of the Yoga Sutras last summer here (at the ashram) led to our "Growing a Spiritual Practice" workshop at Sharing Yoga. This summer we will offer the workshop again. In addition, our studies here during the 500 hour advanced yoga teacher training program have manifested into 2 more ideas. In the works are a "Chakra Purification" workshop and a session/workshop/classes on "Relaxation, Breathing and Meditation".

I will be heading back to NH on Sunday. I am looking forward to getting back to teaching and reconnecting with you. peace, david

Greetings from the ashram

I've been in PA at the ashram since Thursday the 16th. I am here for the first half of my 500 hour advanced Yoga teacher training program. You can check the place out at http://www.himalayaninstitute.org
We are busy from 630 AM until 9 Pm, with breaks to eat and a tiny bit of free time in the afternoon. The training is great. We have 4 very special teachers.Early mornings we do a Yoga class. Then we break off into small groups and practice, observe and assist with different postures. The afternoons begin with lecture, then are spent learning relaxation, meditation and breathing techniques. The evenings are study of the Yoga Sutras. I try to get right to bed because we have to do it all over again and again each day. Lots of wonderful, advanced instruction. It's very challenging on an intellectual level.  We are able to work with other teachers from around the country and share ideas and insights. Hope all is well at Sharing Yoga. peace, david
